In Memory of "The Fallen 20"

In my thought process regarding what to put on my website to honor the memory of the 20 children of Newtown, Connecticut, I could not find words. So this morning, while reading my emails, this poem was sent. It is amazing how God answers even the “thought process” without us even asking.

My Appreciations to the Sender,

“I appreciate you sharing this with me as I was trying to find some words to place on my website, honoring the memory of the children until December 14, 2013. This will definitely speak volumes along with the rose and teddy bears I have chosen. There are too many countries to name who visit my site and followers from Twitter and LinkedIn. This is not being done to gain any type of business relationship, but awareness to the world in some small way that we must, as God's people, do something to combat and protect our children, who are our future.”

Twas' 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38 when 20 beautiful children stormed through heaven's gate.
Their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air.
They could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there.

They were filled with such joy, they didn't know what to say.
They remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day.

"Where are we?" asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse.
"This is heaven." declared a small boy. "We're spending Christmas at God's house."

When what to their wondering eyes did appear, but Jesus, their savior, the children gathered near.
He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same.
Then He opened His arms and He called them by name.
And in that moment was joy, that only heaven can bring those children all flew into the arms of their King.

And as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace, one small girl turned and looked at Jesus' face.

And as if He could read all the questions she had, He gently whispered to her, "I'll take care of mom and dad."

Then He looked down on earth, the world far below.
He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe.
Then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand, "Let My power and presence re-enter this land!"

"May this country be delivered from the hands of fools"
"I'm taking back my nation. I'm taking back my schools!"

Then He and the children stood up without a sound.
"Come now my children, let me show you around."
Excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran.
All displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can.

And I heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight, "in the midst of this darkness, I AM STILL THE LIGHT."

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">WRAP YOUR MIND AROUND IT, I CAN’T!
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">
Our Children Are Our Future
Protect Them At Whatever Costs

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"> There’s an empty space in my heart, while my mind and body try to reconcile the tragedy that unfolded in the United States in Newtown, Connecticut on December 14, 2012 approximately 30 individuals, of which 20 were children gun down while in school, a place I am sure the majority felt somewhat safe. There to be educated, have fun, make friends and anticipate all the things that life has to offer on the journey of a child.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The daily unjust situations and circumstances to children around the globe must come to an immediate end. Much more must be done to increase and band together to keep vigilant regarding the safety and well-being of our children. Communities, parents, schools, lawmakers, etc. are accountable to a higher authority for their endangerment. Gone are the days where it only happens in some other neighborhood, and is at the hands of some other ethnic group. Excuses of whether or not one adult is the cause of a situation, and as a result our children become the victims and are the escape goats.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"> Why are our children failing to be protected? No excuse can be accepted for why the mothers, fathers and family members have to shed tears, say goodbye and try to make sense out of someone’s twisted mentality.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">
Discussions on gun control, with the political atmosphere and no controls that are extensive enough that they may begin to contribute to the possibility of prevention, is holding society hostage.

I will not begin to profess that I could ever understand what made this individual on December 14, 2012, commit such an unspeakable act, but what I do understand, is there is no excuse that is acceptable or should I say should be acceptable to anyone who occupies space on this earth.

For every individual impacted by this act of a coward on December 14, 2012 in Connecticut and for children worldwide, I send up prayers that only the higher authority of power can answer.

Posted to Social Media:

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: x-small;">First my prayers go up for the families and all who were impacted by this senseless tragedy today in Connecticut. As I watched President Obama’s news conference and how he tried to hold back the tears, I reflected on how this was an unusual day for me.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: x-small;">
I normally am on my laptop with various social media from 5:00 a.m. until I take several breaks. Today was different. I came back from walking my grand’s to the bus stop and only stayed on the laptop for 45 mins. This news was relayed to me this afternoon while walking back to the bus stop by one of the other grandparents, who asked “what about the 18 children killed in Connecticut today?” My mind went blank and I could not then, and still cannot comprehend the magnitude of what occurred today. As I saw a picture of the winter play that occurred in the school wherein the 4th graders performed, I reflected on my, along with my daughter and many other parents and grandparents attendance at the 2nd graders winter musical last night. A wonderful holiday performance with much excitement by all.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: x-small;">
Children in Connecticut and in every part of the United States and globally deserve better. They deserve to feel as I and my siblings felt growing up, that parents and grandparents, school and community was a place of protection. Even the neighborhood individual who drank everyday protected you from what he or she may have seen when you were on your way home. By the time my daughter was in school, most of the schools in Philadelphia were equipped with “metal detectors” as some semblance of protection.

I pray that with the assistance of President Obama, lawmakers, parents, grandparents and communities the immediate effort will result in finding some way to protect our children (because they are all our children) because they deserve to have an opportunity to experience the journey of life, as you and I have, and at the very least be given a chance.
